Image-conscious adults who need top-arch orthodontics and don’t qualify for Invisalign can opt for clear braces. Though we call them “clear braces”, they are actually white ceramic brackets that are less obvious than traditional braces, which are shiny and obvious.
How It Works
Orthodontic treatment with clear braces is nearly identical to wearing traditional metal braces.
In some complex cases, Invisalign clear aligners aren’t a good treatment option. When aligners won’t work for an older teen or adult patient, clear braces may provide the best alternative. Clear braces allow the patient to maintain a professional, mature, polished appearance during orthodontic therapy.
FAQs
Do ceramic braces hurt?
When braces are first placed on teeth, the patient will experience 24-48 hours of soreness. An over-the-counter NSAID will alleviate this discomfort. However, clear braces are actually less likely to irritate soft oral tissues because the brackets are smaller and have rounded corners.
Do ceramic braces easily break?
Ceramic brackets are more than twice as likely to break than metal brackets because they’re more brittle than metal. Therefore, Dr. Tun may recommend clear braces for top teeth and metal braces on lower teeth, which incur less stress than lower teeth during biting and chewing. Patients should be cautious to avoid hard foods and chewing on fingernails, pen caps, or other objects. Wearing a mouthguard during sports is imperative.
A person is never too old to correct orthodontic issues, whether functional or cosmetic. Our eldest patient is 64 years old.
Do ceramic braces stain?
Clear bands around clear brackets can discolor if you use tobacco, regularly eat dark foods, or drink coffee, tea, or red wine. Rest assured, we will replace discolored bands with fresh, clear bands at your tightening appointments.
Furthermore, don’t use whitening toothpaste while undergoing orthodontic treatment. It can cause exposed tooth enamel to become brighter than enamel under the brackets, so when braces are removed at the end of treatment, teeth will look stained.
Can I wear clear braces on my bottom teeth?
It depends on your bite. If you have deep Overbite We don’t advise clear braces on lower teeth. However, you can have traditional metal braces on the bottom teeth and clear braces on the top teeth. This is a common treatment for older teens and adults who don’t want the appearance of obvious, metal braces.
